While in England this is often MacMillan without the "Mac", emigrants from Ireland bearing it may have been O'Millans/O'Mullins/O'Mellans, only some bearers of which may have been M'millans - depending on which part of the country they came from. There is a Millan coat of arms which clearly claims a connection with the 18th century MacMillans of Dunmore (see the Heraldry page of the Clan MacMillan Society (of Scotland) site.) |
